RAGGEDY ANN given to Jane by Irene

Crow Bar Marina, Bar and Restaurant celebrated two events the same day -- the Fourth of July celebration and Calamity Jane's birthday.
A sumptuous spread of barbecued pork, chicken, sausage and ribs was presented along with tasty side dishes prepared by boaters.
Two cakes were given to Jane -- one made by Danyelle of s/v JPDan and another, a "sandcastle cake", by Jan of m/v EmmaJo.
Emy presented the gathering with a beautiful floral arrangement.
The highlight of Calamity's gifts was a handmade Raggedy Ann doll, carefully created by Irene of s/v Distant Drummer.

Particularly virulent rumors of child stealing and of murder for organ harvesting have recently surfaced in two separate areas of Guatemala frequented by American tourists.  On June 15, 2007, a Guatemalan child from Camotan, Chiquimula (near the border with Honduras, on the main road leading from Guatemala to the Copan Mayan ruins) was found dead and mutilated.

Mario's Marina under new ownership E-mail
The News - Latest News
By Cindy, s/v Dragonheart
Mario’s
Marina has been on the Rio Dulce for a long time but the ownership has changed hands often.  Recently there has been another change in ownership.

Jim Ellis onboard SeaYeti took over the reins officially
1 May 2007.

JIM ELLIS .. new owner of Mario's Marina

During his life Jim has had several jobs and careers that little did he know where merely stepping stones for his latest adventure.

As with many of us, it is the first jobs that hone our skills for later successes.  Working at a Ski Resort helped his outlook on Customer Service.
His work with the Forest Service as a Fire-Fighter helped give him a calm demeanor and started his decision making processes.

What can you say about a guy who worked with Team McLaren when Johnny Rutherford was the driver.  Talk about thinking on your feet.

Jim also worked as a stagehand in
Southern California and set up stages for such bands as; Black Sabbath, ELO, Austin and many others.

If you have a copy of the DVD Pirates of the
Caribbean 2 then look for Jim.  He was an extra in the movie!

Jim also served in the United States Army as a Warrant Officer and flew Apache Helicopters.
With his heart and head bent on retirement he declined a job with Boeing and bought SeaYeti and set sail.

Finding himself in
Guatemala finishing his degree via the internet Jim at first only advertised the sale of the marina on his website.    But before you could say, “Blow the Man Down” he found that he had made an offer to buy the marina.

Jim hopes to bring back the Glory Days of Mario’s
Marina and looking at the changes already made and the projects in the works it looks like he is well on his way.

Good luck Jim.

EXCELLENT FOOD, EXCELLENT SERVICE

The first in a series of restaurants that are just a tad off the beaten path of our marina restaurant experiences is Bahia Paraiso.  Located in Mansions del Rio, the  big attraction here is the air conditioning!

   Ha, you think I'm joking?

He warned that "unscrupulous people" are circulating rumors through the internet to damage the country.

Crow Bar introduces 'slow cooked' barbecue E-mail
The News - Latest News
Crow Bar Marina and Restaurant today unveilsbbq an innovative approach to barbecue, based upon design factors popular in the Texas Hill Country.
Instead of simply "burning" meat as evidenced at other local restaurants, the above ground pit applies a steady but slow heat to tenderly and gently cook without traumatically searing or scorching the meat fibers, resulting in extremely tender yet thoroughly cooked chicken, pork, sausage and beef, retaining moisture and flavor.
The carefully engineered pit can be seen (and the results tasted) at the Crow Bar's Friday Flea Market and Calamity Jane Social Hour starting mas o menos at high noon.
The pit uses selected all-natural blended wood coals instead of noxious propane or carcinogenic charcoal.
