Security Meeting to be held on Friday, June 15th PDF Print
Representatives of Inguat, the Guatemalan Navy, the Rio Dulce police, and launcheros will meet with Rio Dulce marina managers/owners to discuss security issues affecting the local boating community Friday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at Crow Bar Marina.
Recent thefts of outboard motors from dinghies, as well as entire dinghies, from boats anchored in the bay opposite Fronteras and near the town of El Estor on Lake Izabal has increased concern among members of local boaters and residents.
An increased presence of Navy patrols has been requested.
The local launchero organization has offered to pay for the fuel for the Navy patrols and has asked that the sailing community match their efforts.
Police department representatives have indicated they'll meet with banking officials and area commercial establishments to fundraise for a high speed launch for police patrols.
Efforts continue to encourage boaters to register dinghy motor serial numbers with the customs office in Livingston in order to identify the motors if stolen. It has been reported that some motors have been recovered in Santo Tomas but officials are unable to identify their owners.
