Stephen Trott of Sistemas Solares is bringing solar powered electrical energy to Guatemala – and helping not only boaters and local residents but also remote villages who can now enjoy inexpensive dependable power from the sun.

He, along with Sistemas Solares General Manager Mario Barahona and Public Relations Director John OÇonnor, have recently moved into a new office and sales room at Mar Marine in Rio Dulce.

With two warehouses in Guatemala City, the new business now has thousands of solar panels in stock.

They offer a variety of systems ranging from small single panel installations to light up a couple of light bulbs, provide power for recharging cell phones and perhaps operate a radio – to more complex systems for businesses which will actually put power back into the area power grid.

Sistemas Solares can provide systems to make a cruising sailboat or powerboat independent of dockside power or generators.as well as providing solar powered swimming pool pumps, solar water heaters, refrigerators and freezers.

The firm has already completed 16 installations in remote villages, working with banking firms Genesis and BAM to provide monthly payment plans. In many instances, a villager who burns 3 candles a night can have solar powered lighting for less than the cost of the three candles.

Steve explained, "For the local people we can supply a small lighting solar system that is less expensive over a period of say 9 months than the cost of 3 candles per day which is about the average that most use per day ( our basic small lighting kit is Q1092 , 3 candles per day @ Q1.25= 292 days payback, system life 10yrs+ battery 3-4 yrs , replacement battery Q150)
