Gary and Jane Davy came to the Rio about a year ago from Australia. As with many of us they fell in love with the place. They poked around and found a real nice house on a large waterfront lot but it was just an unfinished shell.

No problem, I've been a builder all me life mate!” They went back to Australia sold their boat and bought the property. In the last year Gary has finished out the house, all three stories, and made many additions. The Hotel Kangaroo Y Restaurante currently has two dorm rooms, each sleeping six people at Q70.00 per night/per person, private double bed with shared facilities Q150.00 per night/per couple, private queen bed with shared facilities Q160.00 per night/per couple, private bungalows with with private baths, under construction --price to be announced.
The Bar photo by Jane Davy A full service bar and restaurant facilities are available. Six timber dug outs/cayucos are free for in-house guests, jacuzzi/spa for all guests, yes you read that right, a jacuzzi! The jacuzzi Photo by Jane Davy Just think about lounging in the bubbles on a hot day with a cool cerveza in your hand. Other services include fresh linen and towels daily, booking facilities for all tours, Internet service available, and ceiling fans in all rooms.
I saw this property several years ago when someone else was looking at real estate. Gary has done a magnificent job of transforming an empty shell into a warm and welcoming Hotel y Restaurante with a "down under" flavor in an amazingly short time.
Seating area Photo by Jane Davy There are plans for more bungalows and a billiards room to be built soon. This is already a lovely resort and it is not even finished. Sunday, (December 7, 2008) we were invited to an Open House party which was well attended and continued halfway into the night.
Jane told me if I liked hamburgers, which of course I do, that I needed to come back to try her “Hamburger with the Lot.” She says it doesn't include papas fritas because the "lot" is on the burger. We are planning our next Chisme Vindicator Staph meeting at the Kangaroo to try the "Hamburger with the Lot". If we survive, we'll get back to you. Hotel Kangaroo Y Restaurante is located on the first river past La Joya del Rio, accessible only by water, hang a left and head up the river, follow the river around a hard right turn and they are on the right. Gary and Jane can be contacted by phone 4513-9602 or by email at
