KEY WEST by Bob Smith s/v Defiance They're here! Finally, Rio Dulce artist Bob Smith has some copies of his "Key West: Images of an Observer" book for sale. "Rodger and George picked up a box of the books at the Schooner Wharf Bar and brought it with them on Rodger's new boat, m/v Cerebus," Bob said. "And they didn't even get wet!" Bob's unique drawing style and blend of colors, as well as his tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, make the book a treasure to have onboard. BOB SMITH "Before becoming a professional sketch/water color artist, Bob designed buildings of all types and sizes during an architectural career that spanned 30 years and encompassed all phases of design and construction, but never wandered very far from his sketch pad," wrote Ed Swift, president of Historic Tours of America. "He's a Key West treasure. His artistic style captures not only the unique Key West architecture but the people and the spirit of America's only Caribbean island." To buy one of the few remaining copies of his Key West book, contact Bob on s/v Defiance on VHF channel 68 or Roy and Jane on m/v Steel Magnolia or email

. He also plans to carry some with him when he visits Mario's Marina Saturday Swap Meet and at Bruno's Marina. He sells the books for only q100 or $13.40 (or whatever loose change you have in your pocket). Now a full-time boater in the Rio Dulce, Bob has announced plans to pick up his sketchpad, pencils and water colors to start on a new book for the Rio Dulce area. That will certainly be another treasure for the Rio. Email Bob at
