Cruiser Entrants Having Fun Before the Race Even Started!
November 23, 2017
by Jody Aston, Editor and Publisher

The weather cooperated last Sunday and Casa Guatemala's First Charity Run turned out to be a lot of fun. Most adults went for the 5K walk and the children were in both the 3K and 5K run. Heather Graham, Director of Casa Guatemala Children's Home, secured many business partners who offered much support, both financially and in personal participation with the event.

Along with their number, entrants received a very snazzy runner's t-shirt, and samples of Fastnum gel (a much-appreciated spray for sore muscles), Sustenium energy solution/drink, and a couple of packets of Helios vitamin-enriched energy cookies. Each child received a medal, and there were huge trophies and cash prizes for first-place winners in the various categories - men, women, children, etc.

As a warm-up, Heather had a Zumba instructor come from Guatemala City to lead a routine. She skillfully energized the youth, and before long, the adults joined the kids and Casa Guatemala volunteer workers.

In all, eleven cruisers got their running or walking shoes on, plus one editor who used the excuse of needing to drive along the route to get better photographs. Heather also opted to ride, but in the back of a pick-up truck, from where she tossed bags of water to the kids who needed a drink or a good splash. First-place winner Barbara, of SV Red Shoes, kindly donated her winnings back to Casa Guatemala. You'll see a photograph of her making the decision while looking at her handful of quetzales!

Enjoy the photos...and next year we hope to see many more boaters in the race!
