The Happy New Managers of Bruno's - Peggy and Lannie, of MV LunaSea Too
May 29, 2017
by Jody Aston, Editor and Publisher

Big changes are happening at Bruno’s Hotel and Marina! The main one is that Peggy and Lannie Overall, of MV LunaSea Too, are the new managers. They have made many friends over the ten years or so on the Rio Dulce, and are known for their big smiles and sense of camaraderie and fun. Lannie is especially well-known as THE one to beat in any chili cookoff! He claims his Texas heritage as the source and inspiration for his culinary skills.

He put those skills to use, again, on Monday, when Bruno’s hosted a big (USA) Memorial Day celebration with chili dogs, hot dogs, Frito-chili-pie and a sweet, delicious key-lime pie to top it off. In spite of there being few cruisers on the rio now, they had a big turnout and a good time was had by all! The Sweet River Band provided excellent entertainment. Check out the photographs of the fiesta and more information on Peggy and Lannie below (click “Read more…”).

Celebrating Memorial Day at Bruno's

Peggy and Lannie have already initiated some improvements to the property. For a very long time, the runoff and flooding from rainstorms had been a problem for Bruno’s, to which a few unsuccessful stopgap measures were made in the past. When you enter the driveway, now, you will see the new, much more efficient drainage system that Peggy and Lannie had installed.

Lety’s Mini Market L y A, at the rear of the property, was continually flooded, to the point they had to move into a smaller location on the grounds. With the new drainage system, and a much-needed replacement of the water-damaged floor, the tienda was able to move back into the former building. Stop by and check out their inventory on your next trip to town.

The hotel has reasonable rates, there’s a great breeze and view from the restaurant and bar, a refreshing swimming pool, laundry services and shower facilities. Since Peggy and Lannie are, themselves, boaters, and managed Moko Point Marina for six years, they are knowledgeable and will help with your boating needs. Presently, they have 3 slips available.

Another good change under the new management is that they have a radio and make announcements on the morning Cruiser’s Net VHF 69 radio (7:30 a.m. Mon.-Sat.). Peggy provides news of the daily lunch specials and other events. Bruno’s will continue to allow cruisers to leave their dinghies at the docks, free of charge, while shopping on the main street. Please remember to thank Peggy and Lannie, and try to purchase something from Bruno’s - maybe one of those luncheon specials, or even just a drink, in return.

Thanks to Peggy and Lannie for a fun Memorial Day celebration, and best wishes for the future at Bruno’s!
