Mike Wilton of SV Moon Slipper with First Blue Nose Catch

November 9, 2015
By Vickie of S/V Allegro

Our cruising community has lost another colorful character with the passing of Mike Wilton, of S/V Moon Slipper (Kelly Peterson 44). It is with great sadness that we report that Mike died this past Friday afternoon, November 6th, in Edmonton, Canada; succumbing to cancer.

Mike Wilton
Mike and Glenda, his wife of nearly 50 years, spent every hurricane season in the Rio since 2002 and made many friends here as well as in the other parts of the NW Caribbean. Mike was an avid sailor and fish hunter. During the cruising season, the dinner table was seldom without fresh seafood, with hogfish as one of his favorites. During the off-season, you could often find him, in the afternoon, having a cold beer outside of Chiqui's (Tienda Reed's).

Mike Having Fun in Costume
Mike was kind of a private guy, but you dared not let that twinkle in his eye fool you. He would often have us laughing with his wry sense of humor, funny comments and seemingly out-of-character antics that would have his wife shaking her head. It was always good to be around him and Glenda.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his wife, Glenda, their 3 children, Michael, Shaun and Angela (and their spouses), their 2 grandchildren, Benjamin and Emma, and their granddogs, Stacey and Chester. Mike always spoke well of his family and had their well-being in mind, more than his own, as he fought the good fight against his cancer.

Mike, we miss you, but we hope there are hogfish in the afterlife! Until we meet again...
