Scoop, The rio has a lot of great things, but food isn't one of them, why does my opinion upset you so?

I guess one solution to this whole issue is don't eat in restaurants, cook it yourself and eat at home. That's a lot cheaper. Twisted Evil

...inshallamiami, don't take it personally.

it's why we call him our grumpy ol' editor.

remember, we are in paradise. no one, that is NO ONE can change that idea except your own self. big deep breath, and appreciate.

I would love to know WHY Sundog and Kangaroo's restaurant can provide a nice meal and others cant? They are friendly (no overt stink eye and even smile on occasion) their prices are reasonable, and they are clean. the last item is a biggy.

I enjoy ALL cuisines, and prefer small local restaurants, and they don't have to be cheap, but many of the food places here ARE pretty awful.

Simple answer. They are owned and operated by people that are in business for themselves (having a real stake in the performance of the business) and that oversee the menu's, the purchasing of the products, the pricing of the products, have long standing employees that understand the concept of the products (which they, I assume, pay the yearly benefits to), or have family (spouse, ect.) working. Then they themselves have some degree or another an ability and desire to assist in the preparation of the product and willingness to manage and oversee an acceptable level of service.

As El Polvo pointed out and others, this is not limited to a 'gringo thing'. Hotel Escondido indeed has good food, and customer care that will drive you nuts with over service. It is family owned and run. And they are there all day long. It is simply taking pride in a good job and not just taking the free ride.

It would be insane to expect a manager that doesn't care what they eat for food to care what a customer eats.

okay tanny. you win the sarcasm contest. for whatever that's worth.

this thread is beginning to become unhelpful and unattractive.
i'm going to close it before it gets any longer and ask the winners
and losers to start a new topic/thread/fight in the debate club forum
if this one seems prematurely closed.

some good info came out... no sense in throwing too much unproductive
chatter in here and making it hard to find the useful stuff.
