Oh how we wish we were able to cruise the Full Moon Party with everyone in the Rio!!! Alas, we are anchored in Mosquito Lagoon, ICW, in central Florida at the moment. But we are having a wonderful time. Can't help but think of Dennis and his wonderful family & staff @ the Beach!!! Many fond memories!!!

We miss you all... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Looks like we have 8 boats signed up for the Full Moon Cruise -- and room for more! (We'll do it again for elpolvo when he comes home for Christmas).

Here's a mas or menos GPS position for Don Hugo's Eco Hotel:

N 15 31.383
W 089 19.155

I won't be able to check out the accuracy of the waypoint and the water depths until we actually arrive on Saturday morning, so please use it with caution.

Some folks have asked if this is going to be another free lunch with free beer and booze like our recent trip to Amatique Bay Resort.

Sorry.
This is a small family owned and operated ecolodge & restaurant. They can't afford to give away food or drinks. But they will be serving beer to their guests during this weekend's election. They are very friendly and hospitable and are looking forward to meeting all the cruisers.

Please let me know if you'd like to make the trip and if you're interested in any of the tours to El Estor, Boqueron Canyon, hot waterfalls, etc.

Also, let me or Don Hugo know if you're taking guests along who would like to rent one of the bungalows.

An update:

Single rooms rent for Q141 per night and doubles for Q190.

We will have a security guard at night in a lancha who will cruise around the anchored boats with a spotlight and (shhh!) shotgun. Please don't aggravate him.

Don Hugo would like to know your preference in beer and food to make your visit muy amable.

And, no, Jane and I don't receive any commissions or kickbacks from any of this. We're just happy to help organize trips like this to inspire boaters to get out and explore this beautiful area.

We have several other trips planned and hope you'll join us. Experienced explorers such as s/v Moonbow and s/v Lorelei would be great to help with these excursions if they'd just get their butts back to the Rio. Wink

There is so much more to the Rio Dulce and Lago Izabal than sitting in a marina and enduring the same ol' grumpy ol' farts every happy hour.

De veras???

very good idea, to bad I cannot make it this time,
on the south side of the west end of the lake is a very good spot to anchor (i think it is called refugio, you have to make a big turn around the point, to the west), nobody around, except some robalos. at don hugo's palapa in the water it is around 5 feet deep, he told me to anchor to the south west, the only problem I see is a bayama, normally last a few hours.
saludos marco

CANCELED !!

Sorry about this but it looks like the trip to Don Hugo's is canceled.

He called me this morning and asked if we could reschedule since he fell yesterday and hurt his leg bad enough that he has a hard time getting out of bed.

Also, he is worried about boaters' safety due to the rash of heavy thunderstorms and winds during this past few days.

Boaters are certainly welcome to go to Denny's Beach for the party. Denny watches the weather carefully and has no problem advising boaters to pull anchor and head for Bahia Refugio or other safer anchorages.

The Steel Magnolia won't be moving since she apparently suffered a lightning hit (or near hit) last night. No obvious electronic damage but all three battery banks were completely discharged. Weird.

Question

Oh Roy - so sorry to hear that you were in the electric emission cone!!!

Gary and I were walking the pups this morning and the power pole we were under at the moment blew up...kaboom and sparks everywhere.

...then a fried squirrel fell down from the wires, directly in front of us (grey squirrel, not flying squirrel).

Could this be a portent? My ears were ringing for at least 5 minutes!!!

Our best wishes to Don Hugo, and hope y'all can reschedule. Hope Denny is ok w/cancellation.

Sad to lose a member of the species in front of my very eyes!!!! Wink Wink Wink Wink
