Has anyone read anything in any of the local newspapers about any progress on the part of Honduras finding the people who are responsible for this tragedy yet? Has a patrol that the President promised been put in place in the area?
If not, maybe an onslaught of letters/emails to the government of Honduras may get them to make this more of a priority...I'm thinking public outcry! _________________ Thank you,

I think that is a good idea. Anyone else have an opinion? _________________ Fair winds for all |

I think letters to the government of Honduras would fall on deaf ears.
You might have better success with letters to travel publications who then in turn contact the government of Honduras. They are very concerned about the tourist dollars, particularly Roatan and Utila. _________________ I have been asked...what do you old folks do now that you're retired? Thanks Windy Dancer. Do you have any in particular in mind? You also gave me an idea, travel websites might be interested. Maybe we can get a list of places to contact on this forum and then ask everyone to start writing. Maybe we get their attention and hopefully save the life or belongings of a fellow cruiser. _________________ Thank you,

Hi folks
Another question,
What ever was the result of the boat on the beach after the rats probably stripped her. Can we salvage her and sell it and send the money back up to Milans daughter? |

Celtic Dancer,
Since I don't know you or your personality, I'm not sure what to think about your post above. Is this your way of trying to be funny? _________________ Thank you,

Actually, he is being very serious .. and is one of the few lads around here capable of doing a proper salvage.
But most likely, it is too late. |

scoop-
thanks for claifying. i can vouch for what you said about the celt and if i was there now,
i'd volunteer to go help him.
i'm also holding my breath to hear from anyone... police, government,
or anyone who knows something about the clayton gulck kidnapping.
i sent a lot of private emails to a lot of people requesting URGENT
financial help and i feel i owe them some information... even if it's
just to explain why there is no public information forthcoming.

Okay, I wasn't sure he was serious. However, we are getting off-topic here. Could we go back to who to make our public outcry to about the dangers to the cruisers coming out of the Rio Dulce and heading to the Bay Islands? I'd like to hear what Windy Dancer suggests about who to contact and then see if we can get the other cruisers to join in on raising a big stink about the crime, robberies and violence to cruisers coming to Honduras. _________________ Thank you,

Get a grip
I will try to make it simple for you.
The boat was on the beach.
I am sure she was stripped by locals etc.
I was asking if anyone thinks that we as fellow cruisers could help by repairing any holes etc and pulling the vessel off the beach.
Selling the boat and sending all funds back to Milans daughter.
So my way of trying to be funny????
I dont think so. But it is a reply to the of La Prensa
Have a fun day and keep safe.

If you are really serious about getting involved with salvaging Milan's boat, you will need to go through the legal bureaucracy of the country. We did this when we took possession of S/V Vicky (Rune Torkildsen, a Norwegian national). Your best contact in Honduras for getting through the red tape will be Rodger Mehrer, the Warden for US Consulate in Honduras. He's located in Utila and was instrumental in helping us get possession of the boat. If you need more info, let me know. Good luck - it's not an easy job! _________________ Happy to be...bouncing from tree to tree... |

It was just an idea to try help out.

Derek,
Check your PMs for a possible way to facilitate salvage.
