(Editor's Note: This is from Rich Moore of Corpus Christi).
Hello Roy,
I found you and your site from your reply to a question about crossing the Gulf of Mexico from Galveston to Isla Mujeres on the Living Aboard Forums.
I must say that I am quite impressed with what you folks have done in your area there on the rio. It seems that you have established quite a community of like minded folks. I have read of the Rio Dulce on some vessel logs in the past few years, but it did not seem to be quite as boater friendly or boater operated as it is now.
My basic plan and dream, you gotta' have a dream, is to stop in and visit your piece of paradise when I make the final break from life on the hard. I intend to poke about a bit on the Northern Yucatan and make my way around the bend on the eastern end and poke my way south and stop in to see you folks. Where I go from there is any body's guess.
Do you have any advice regarding my basic plan that you could give me? I mean, should I avoid some areas due to safety concerns. Are there regulations that could cause me problems or rip me off? I figure that since you folks are in that area you would know and would have heard all of the horror stories of those who have passed that way.
Anyway, well done and I am envious of your life on the rio. I am particularly impressed by the donation you folks made by getting the medical people to where they needed to be in order to help the locals.
Once again, well done.
Rich Moore

My reply to M'Lady would be the often heard adage: "The most difficult part of any boating voyage or trip is throwing off the dock lines." The other that comes to mind is: "If you can't leave until everything is ready and in order then you will never leave."
Those two little gems of wisdom aside, it is likely that everyone's experience is different, you will not be the first to pass through these waters and that whatever it is that challenges you, you will over come those challenges ......or fail. There is more than enough to be read about security in this forum and most of the well known issues of the boating community have been discussed at length in this forum. I recommend a few hours at the computer reading as much of the forum as possible that interest you. I am confident you will have as much information as you can get on the subject of interest regarding this area. So, throw off the dock lines, even if there are a few loose ends and meet those challenges. Perhaps you'll have something new and interesting to share with the forum upon your arrival.
Fair winds and following seas,
