I just discovered approx $500 in U.S. and Belize bills was stolen by the girl that had been cleaning my boat for months. The money was well hidden but it obviously didn't stop her from literally searching the contents of things she had no business rummaging in to find it. She also was cunning enough to switch the new bills with a (slightly) torn $50 bundled with Limpira & Pesos to make it appear the money had not been taken. Clever this one.

I'm not going to 'out' her name in public but if you are about to hire a girl to clean your boat PM me with her name and I will tell you if it is her or not.

....sorry to read this, fretless. do you know when this happened? was she still coming to clean your boat AFTER the disappearance?

not sure i agree with your decision not to "out" her. cunning and clever? it'll happen again, if it hasn't already.

Not exactly, but I have a good idea. The money was hidden in the 'garage' (normally off-limits v-berth) underneath some stuff in a zippered pocket. There was only the one time a few weeks ago she 'voluntarily' straightened the V-berth up. I didn't think to check then but a few days ago I decided to check on it and found it missing. It's a little more 'involved' than that but that is the essence of what happened. Suffice to say with the other evidence she left to decoy me I have absolutely zero doubt she stole the money.

And yes, however long it was in the interim she still came twice a week, was just as personable as always and by all appearances nothing was ever amiss. Even when I fired her she asked 'por que?' Quite the actor.

No doubt... once a thief always a thief, especially so her being as much the 'artful dodger' she turned out to be. I'll more than gladly disclose her identity to anyone that asks 'person to person'. Otherwise, I've since been cautioned (by someone that should know) she has 'amigos con armas' and you just never know with these people.

You are handling it the correct way.

Sorry it happened.

Keep it person to person, when asked, but never in writing.

Fret sorry about your loss REALLY. Could happen any place in the world even in the good old USA. I have taken a few hits in my 20 years in Guatemala. Good and bad people in every country, I have ever visited.

But a bit dis made by your comment and uncalled for

"and you just never know with these people." Sounds more like cracker talk?
