ALLEGED SEA PIRATES APPEAR IN COURT - Two men: Brenton Brackett and Sherwin Moore were slapped with a slew of charged related to alleged sea piracy incident. A total of nine charges were read to Brackett and Moore when they appeared in Magistrate’s court today. These include: 3 counts of attempted murder; 1 count of robbery; 1 count of dangerous harm; 1 count of use of deadly means of harm; 1 co...unt of burglary; 1 count of aggravated assault and 1 count of handling stolen goods. No plea was taken and both men were remanded to the Hattieville prison until their next court appearance on August 28. The alleged piracy incident happened on July 3 at Colson range Caye offshore Stann Creek. Fisherman, Cornelio Verde, 60, and his two sons were attacked while on their fishing boat. According to the police reports, four men who were on another boat asked them for fuel; but then produced firearms resembling AK47 assault rifles and ordered Verde and his sons to jump overboard. While Verde and his sons were in the water the gunmen opened fire, hitting Cornelio in his buttocks and thigh. The gunmen ordered Verde and his sons
back into their boat and took them to their camp at Colson Caye where they were robbed of several items and their residence was burglarized. Items valued at $9,570 were stolen. The sons managed to escape and alerted the Belize National Coast Guard. On July 6, police went to Southern Long Caye and they recovered one of the stolen items.See more

One can only hope these are the same a$$holes that assaulted the cruisers a month or so ago in S. Belize.

Gracias, elpolvo
I agree .. the Ground Truth section should be comprehensive enough to display security issues for all of the adjacent cruising grounds, including Belize and Honduras so our readers don't have to search through the entire forum to be uptodate on security problems, land or sea.
