Need to kick-start our Guatemalan visas by leaving the country for a few days and then return. Thinking of taking the water taxi to Punta Gorda, Belize. Any suggestions for lodging there?

plenty of lodging in and around Punta Gorda - for all budgets, from very, very very expensive jungle lodges through expensive jungle lodges, moderate but nice hotels in or around "town" to pure budget, but legendary among backpackers.

I am in PG and if you let me know what kind of lodging you are interested in I shall post names, descriptions and links where available.

Another option (a bit of Fred drift)

We have been going to Omoa Honduras for the last few visa runs and stayed overnight for 1 night

If you can link up with someone that has transport it is only a 2 hour drive from Rio Dulce, you can also do it by bus

Border costs are about $3 per person and $3 for the vehicle spray all at the Honduran border on entry

Thanks for both replies. As far as Punta Gorda lodging is concerned, my interest would be in the mid-range price range, I guess. Basically, something clean with AC.

This maybe close to what you asked. It also has fares and times from Puerto Barrios to Punta Gorda
PB actually makes more sense since a chicken bus is alot cheaper than a water taxi.

...there is no casual lancha service from l'ston to p.g., but there is a regular scheduled service on tuesdays and fridays, departing l'ston at 7 am. you must clear immigration the night before, by 5 pm, which means an o'night in l'ston for the early departure. the price is around Q200 one way. return same day will cost you an additional $50 belize, as well as the lancha service.

to be strictly legal, the 3 day stay puts you back on the return schedule of tuesday or friday, which is around 10 or so. you are in l'ston for the early aft. collectivo.

one option is luis, 5918-0163, who can get you a belize stamp for a lot less. unless you just need the adventure. Wink
