I just checked out of Big Creek on Tuesday the 18th. I did not have to pay any fees other than the $7.50 US at immigration. This is the way to get around the 2 Port Authority employees who are imposing fees on unsuspecting cruisers. These fees are not legal but just really bribes.
First alway tell immigration that you are leaving the same day as you are checking out so they will not hit you with delayed checkout (?) fees of $25 US.
Second only check out on Tuesday or Thursday when the Port Authority people are working elsewhere.
Third when you go to Customs do not show them your passports. They will not ask usually. The only thing you need to give them is the 2 copies of your crew list that immigration stamped. They will sign both, keep one and staple the other one to your zarpe. You are now finished with checking out.
If you are unlucky enough that the Port Authority people happen to be around then when they ask you if you are checking out, just say no that you are extending your stay.
