This is a book. Set aside three hours, because it's a page turner and it's THAT long.
Don't print it if you care about conserving trees... it's probably 100 pages. (If you
care about your eyes, go ahead and print it but share it with someone.)

If you can read this with an investigative, non-judgemental mind, there is a wealth of information
to be found in here. If you read it as a cruiser who has not yet been to the Rio Dulce
it's a warning of DANGER.

If you read it as a critique of the Guatemalan Government (all branches) ...and the Rio Dulce Community....
by a trial lawyer and amateur pop psychologist from the United States, which is basically what it is...
then this topic will soon be headed for "The Fight Club Forum".

Regardless of how you feel about the content and the author's viewpoint and conclusions,
this is a very well written book from the standpoint of organization, readability and
intrigue. Anyone who reads the entire book will not be able to hold back comment here.

PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT unless and until you have read the entire book.

Bang......

OK.. just kidding. El Polvo is correct. This is a must read, it is in depth, controversial.. but if nothing else should be thought provoking.

Constructive conversation is encouraged.. but you MUST read the ENTIRE thing before you even think of posting.. trust me. I will know if you did. There is a test.

Posts that are not constructive will be tossed in to the Fight Club! Pronto.

Fight Club is the place for all the emotionalism that this document creates. If you find your synapses zapping and your gray matter churning and want to discuss it.. bring it.

I know the gentlemen who authored this, I understand his viewpoints, I may not agree with them all, and he knows this.

Cheers

The article that is listed above, has an addendum. There is a very eloquently written portion that everyone who has read the first posting should read.

In my mind the Rio was found by some very interpid souls.

I wish I could find the early website pages discussing "SV THAT", if anyone has it I think it provides a incredible peek in to the past.

Guatemala is still a breathtaking place, but it is not Disneyland.

Cheers

El Jeem,

I think you can find the story of THAT on the Maya Paradise Web site under stories. There are some other really good articles and stories on that site that I heartily recommend to everyone.

It's here on Mayaparadise at http://mayaparadise.com/stories/that/thatindex.htm

A wonderful story, well worth the reading.

It oughta be a movie starring Dennis Hopper or Jack Nicholson or Harrison Ford.

When some one tells the truth about what happend on the RIO last year, it should be considered informative. It was not an oppinion. It was the truth because I was there at Mario's also. I am back in the US and I realy don't care any more, but you should at least acknowledge the truth. He only did what he said he was going to do. He told the truth.
Yes, your country is beautiful and I loved living on the cheap there, but it is dangerous and people need to know the truth. Painting a preaty picture of the RIO with out telling the truth only puts cruizers at risk. That was Indigomoons goal after he left the RIO, and that was what he accomplished. I am glad he did it and it needed to be done.
I know the security patrol is working and that is wonderful. Cruizers just need to know from "Raul" that they need to get up the RIO and not anchor out so they can enjoy the RIO in the safety zone. Hopefully he is telling the cruizers that now?
When I was in Roatan I told cruizers that were coming from Panama the truth. I didn't tell them not to go to the RIO. I just informed them of what they need to do if they do go to the RIO. Indigo moon was able to reach more people with his article which was a perfect substitute for not being down here any longer.

HI Dave,
Good to hear you made it back to the States. As I am sure you noted at the beginning of this post... and of this forum. We are looking for constructive contributions. After rereading your post and the posts above yours... I am looking for your contribution.

I do not delete posts.. but I do monitor and move as appropriate.

Your defense of someones opinion is a bit confusing. Primarily because I do not believe anyone in this Forum is attacking Buddy.... in fact as the moderator of the forum. I will not tolerate that form of behavior. So you don't really need to defend his opinion. It is respected here.

Buddy spent a great deal of time sorting out what he experienced. He has my personal respect for the time and effort he expended in trying to present his experiences. And he knows it.

As far as the distribution of information. Yes Raul does inform inbound boats about the hazards and risks associated with anchoring out. I know Tijax, Marios, Monkey Bay, and Catamarans provide information to arriving boats that identify areas to anchor and advise against anchoring overnight in places like Livingston. These were the constructive suggestions from Buddy.

We always appreciate your constructive comments.

Cheers
